Your stake

Each player starts with 2,000 STDs (so-called Tournament Dollars). No amount of penicillin will change this condition.

To start, you must wager:

  • 1,000 STDs in the Round of 64
  • 1,000 STDs in the Round of 32
You may wager on any number of games. You do not have to bet on all of them.

For the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight, you must wager all the STDs you have left from the first weekend: half on the Sweet Sixteen and half on the Elite Eight.

In the Final Four and National Championship, you must wager all the STDs you have accumulated to date: half on the Final Four and half on the championship game.

Scoring: the PickSixtyFour secret sauce

The payout for each game is:

(amount wagered) × (seed of the team you picked)

Example: 100 STDs on the 13th-seeded Northern Iowa Tech Runnin' Roosters returns 100 × 13 = 1,300 STDs… but only if the Runnin' Roosters scratch out a win.

The player with the most STDs after the National Championship wins. Finally, your lack of judicious choices is rewarded. Sweet.

Deadlines

There are three rounds of allocating your STDs. All bets are due at P64 World Headquarters before tip-off of the first game of that weekend.

Special bets

You get two special bets in each round, and you must use both. In the Championship, use one or the other.

DoubleThe Daily Double

Designate one pick as your Daily Double. If that team wins, you receive (coincidentally enough) twice the normal payout.

VegasThe Vegas pick

Select one team to "beat the point spread." For PickSixtyFour purposes, the point spread equals the seed of the team you picked. An example:

  • You put 200 STDs on the 14th-seeded Slippery Rock State Head Traumas.
  • If SRS wins, or loses by less than 14 points, you win!
  • If SRS loses by 14 points or more… oh, man… that sucks. Because you lose.

Turbo Team

Now would be a good time to read closely. Turns out the most important pick you make happens before the first cheerleader shakes their pom-poms for the world to see.

After the field is announced, but before the first game, you'll select one team as your Turbo Team (TT) for the whole tournament.

Whenever you wager on your TT and they win, your payout is turbocharged by 25%. A payout of 100 STDs becomes 125. This applies to standard picks and Daily Double and Vegas wagers.

Very important notes

  • You get one chance to select your Turbo Team.
  • If your Turbo Team is eliminated, you can't pick a new one.
  • You don't have to bet on your Turbo Team, but the bonus only applies when you do.

Confused? Perfect. The Committee is pleased.

Hedge bets

No hedge bets allowed. You may not bet on both teams in the same game. The PickSixtyFour Supercomputer will not allow it. Don't embarrass yourself by trying!

Private leagues

Create your own league and invite friends (i.e., easy marks in your office, church, neighborhood or cell block) to a private competition.

Inter-league competition

Leagues are ranked by the average finish of all their members. Lowest score wins.
